Terms of sale

They govern every sale of a framed print concluded on this site between the house and a consumer buyer. They are accepted when the order is confirmed, and the version in force is the one displayed on that day.

To complete — the registered name of the SAS end of the item to complete, a société par actions simplifiée registered with the trade register of To complete — the registering city end of the item to complete, with its registered office at To complete — the postal address of the registered office end of the item to complete. Each print reproduces a public-domain archive photograph, restored, printed on paper and mounted behind a mat in a wooden frame. The edition is open: prints are neither numbered nor limited in number.

The buyer chooses a size, a mat colour and a moulding. The photographs on this site render the framing as closely as possible, but a paper print seen in room light is not a screen: slight differences in tone are inherent to printing and do not constitute a defect.

The crop needed to fill the print area removes a few per cent of the image at its edges. That is a constraint of the format, not a one-off choice.

Prices are shown in euros, inclusive of all taxes and of carriage to the countries served. They depend on the size and mat chosen, and on the destination.

The final amount is the one shown on the confirmation screen, before payment. The house may change its prices at any time; the price that applies is the one in force when the order is placed.

An order is formed in three steps: choosing the prints and their framing, entering the delivery address, then confirming — which constitutes acceptance of these terms and of the price shown.

The house may decline an order on legitimate grounds — a prior payment dispute, a manifestly abnormal quantity, an address it cannot serve. No amount is retained in that case.

An e-mail confirms the order. It does not constitute acceptance until payment has been taken.

Payment is made by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or PayPal, through Stripe. The house neither sees nor stores any card data.

A numbered invoice is issued for each order and sent by e-mail. It is also available from the customer area.

Each print is made to order by a partner workshop: nothing is held in stock. Carriage is added to making, and the time given at the moment of ordering covers both.

The house does not announce a firm delivery date, and will not: it depends on a carrier it does not control. The ranges shown at the time of ordering are indicative.

An order may be corrected or cancelled as long as making has not begun. Write as early as you can to bonjour@artzaman.fr; after that point the print is committed.

The house serves the destinations offered at the time of the order, and those alone. That list governs: no destination absent from it is served. As of the revision date shown at the foot of this page, it is the following.

For any destination outside the customs territory of the European Union, import duties and taxes may fall due on arrival, and they are borne by the recipient. The house neither advances nor refunds them. A parcel refused for want of paying them stays at the recipient’s charge, return costs included.

The parcel is entrusted to a carrier. Risk passes to the buyer when the parcel is handed over, not when it is dispatched.

Each print is made after the order, to the combination of size, mat and moulding chosen by the buyer. On that basis the house relies on the exception in article L. 221-28, 3° of the French Consumer Code: the fourteen-day right of withdrawal does not apply.

This exclusion is set out in these terms, which the buyer accepts on confirming the order, and it is restated on the confirmation screen before any payment.

What follows is unaffected: the statutory warranties remain whole, and the house remakes at its own cost any print that arrives damaged, badly printed or not as ordered.

Open the parcel in front of the carrier where you can, and photograph the packaging before opening it if it is damaged. A photograph taken at that moment is worth more than anything written afterwards.

Report any damage or non-conformity as soon as you can to bonjour@artzaman.fr, with photographs of the parcel and of the print.

The buyer has the benefit of the statutory warranty of conformity (articles L. 217-3 and following of the French Consumer Code) and of the warranty against hidden defects (articles 1641 and following of the Civil Code). They apply independently of any commercial warranty and at no cost to the buyer.

Under the warranty of conformity, the buyer has two years from delivery and may choose between repair and replacement, subject to the cost conditions set by law.

Write first to bonjour@artzaman.fr: most disagreements are settled there. The Returns and claims page says what the house remakes at its own cost and what it does not take back.

Failing agreement, the buyer may refer the matter free of charge to the consumer mediator to which the house is affiliated: To complete — the name and address of the mediator, and its website end of the item to complete. The European online dispute resolution platform is also available.

These terms are governed by French law. In the event of a dispute, and failing an amicable settlement, the French courts have jurisdiction under the conditions provided by law.
